How the crypto converter works
Enter an amount in either field and pick the currencies — the other field updates instantly. Conversions use a live USD reference rate, so you can go fiat→crypto, crypto→fiat, or crypto→crypto (for example BTC to ETH). Rates are indicative market prices and refresh each time you open the page.

Where the rates come from
Rates are read from Coinbase's public exchange-rate feed, and the request is made by your browser, not by our servers — so the amounts you type never reach GriffNode and there is no account or API key involved. The last successful set of rates is cached locally, so the tool still converts if the feed is briefly unreachable.
These are indicative market rates for reference. The exact rate you get when you actually sell or spend crypto depends on your exchange or wallet, its spread, and the network fee at that moment — see the fee calculator for what those costs look like.

A single live USD reference rate per currency, taken from Coinbase's public feed. Every pair is calculated through USD, so BTC→ETH is BTC→USD→ETH. There is no markup or spread added on our side.
